SPRING 2017: Street Style

Street style has recently made it big on the fashion scene, and it’s not just for fall and winter. Street style has evolved and brought us trends that are to die for. We see street style in the celebrity world & with those who are equally as daring in their fashion choices; however, anyone can adapt these items to fit whatever style works best for them.

One accessory making head way is a straw bag. Straw bags have migrated from the beach to the city and are more friendly on your wallet than a new leather piece.

The bottoms of choice for this season are anything denim. Denim mini skirts are making a frequent appearance. (Bet you wish you would’ve saved all those denim skirts from when you were younger). We are also seeing a lot of straight, boxy cut blue jeans.Screen Shot 2017-04-27 at 7.48.31 PM

Moving north to the top region, bell sleeves are a flowy and feminine statement that can jazz up a simple shirt. Another trend for those simple clothing pieces, is one of my faves, ruffles. Frilly ruffles are being thrown on just about everything from tops, to dresses and skirts.

Graphic tees are being recycled from the fall season and we couldn’t be more stoked.

Whether you’re supporting your favorite band, or a quote about your morning coffee, graphic tees with a pair of shorts or jeans, will definitely be a go-to for warm spring days.

In the category of dresses, the slip dress paired on top of a simple t-shirt has been taken a step further and dresses of every kind are being paired with chunkier knits and button down shirts.

Spring 2017 is one for experimenting, so try on some ruffles and go make the sidewalk your runway!

Today we’re talking about an upcoming, key trend for summer – espadrilles. This is not a new trend, with the espadrille style dating back to 1322, but is one that keeps coming around for the spring and summer months. Originally seen as a holiday shoe for beach vacations, espadrilles have become popular for everyday wear. They’re the perfect summer shoe, with versatile styles and options to suit everyone.

In recent years, we’ve seen some of our favourite celebrities pick up on the espadrille trend, including Selena Gomez, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Miranda Kerr and Kourtney Kardashian. We’re expecting to see more stars rocking this trend into summer!

Updated to be more fashionable for the upcoming season, platform shoes are now being given an espadrille makeover. Platforms have been trending for a few seasons now and the new espadrille platforms combine two of our favourite trends!

Check out below for links to our favourite espadrilles!

SPRING TRENDS 2017: Our Top Three

Stripes, neon, and floral, oh my! Even though it is technically still winter, spring is in full swing in the fashion world. Here are some fun trends that we have already seen this season!

One word: neon! Also known as everyone’s favorite color to wear as nail polishes and clothing because, well, who doesn’t love a set of colors that makes you look tan and gives a vibrant pop to whatever you have on?Screen Shot 2017-03-09 at 9.03.28 PM.png

Bright yellows and oranges and stand-out pinks and greens are carrying over from summer to add a bold addition to your closets for spring. To make this trend more wearable, stick to sheer and gauze-like fabrics that tone down the boldness of the overall color. And since neon colors can be worn for more than one season, you’re getting twice the wear for the same price!

Another trend we see slipping its way over from summer is the nautical stripe. Everyone rocked navy and white last summer, but this spring the stripes are bold and bright! All rules are thrown out the window with this trend, ladies. We are seeing stripes in all colors and all variations–vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and any direction you can think of. Every color combination can rock this stripe trend.Screen Shot 2017-03-09 at 9.02.43 PM

Sticking with bold moves, florals are back as a crowd favorite for spring. Florals were a trend for fall and winter as seen in darker tones and heavier fabrics, but the lighter shades and pastel florals that we always love are back and better than ever! Tropical florals that make us dream of a vacation are the staple for this season. Shout out to the 70’s for once again lending us their floral patterns! These florals are surprisingly easy to style and can be taken from work to play in any your favorite dress or blouses. Ever try a floral print shoe? I highly suggest it, your world may be forever changed.

We first saw the menswear trend break through on the Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney and Saint Laurent fall runways a few years ago and man has it been here to stay. From boyfriend denim that has gained popularity since early last spring, to the newer loafer and trouser genre, we are head over sneakers for this “borrowed from the boys” look.

Boyfriend jeans were the frontrunner of the ‘Menswear’ trend and although they have been around for a few years, boyfriend jeans helped the trend come to the spotlight in all of our favorite styles. The “boyfriend” fit now applies to t-shirts, a variety of bottoms, and shoes. The meaning behind the look being that it’s slouchy and comfy, yet fashionable and chic. The ‘Menswear’ look gives us an alternative to all of those oversized hoodies that we could all live in, & the trend has since spilled over into the business world  with longline blazers and loafers.

As pictured, Zendaya shows us a way to take those boyfriend jeans and jazz them up a bit with heels to give them a more feminine look.

Now for the finishing touch of an outfit, shoes! The loafer may be a little off putting to some, but there are so many feminine patterns that make this shoe a great alternative to the ballet flat.

Save your trip to the mall and check out your boys closet or order the #looksforless below!  ‘Borrowed From the Boys’ is one of our favorites and it isn’t going anywhere.

SELENA GOMEZ: Recent Looks & A New Style

screen-shot-2017-02-16-at-3-17-48-pmWe’re barely even two months in 2017, but Selena Gomez is already one of our best dressed celebrities this year! Selena’s recent looks have got everyone talking, with streamlined and contrasting outfits which give her a more grown-up vibe.

Two of Selena’s most popular recent looks have featured a key trend – cropped flare jeans. Paired with a dinosaur motif Coach sweater, a white turtleneck and suede pumps, Selena pulled off an updated ‘geek chic’ look. Selena also paired her denim with a black coat, cropped top and patent slingback pumps – the perfect day-to-night look! We know Selena will be the subject of inspiration for many women this year, so make sure you check out the link below to get your trend piece for less cash!

In another denim-focused and 70s inspired look, Selena paired denim dungarees with platform heels and a sheer, long sleeved top. 70s inspired looks have experienced resurgence lately, with flares, platforms, fringe and suede dominating the runways for SS17. Selena wears the 70s trend perfectly, limiting herself to one key piece – platform heels – and building her outfit around them.

Denim has been around since 1871 and during those 146 years, denim has become a crowd favorite. It has changed with every passing decade and we are now experiencing a comeback of some of our favorite styles from the past. Some of these comebacks include: high-waisted jeans and shorts, denim overalls, denim jackets, the boyfriend jean, the mom jean, flares, and even skinny jeans.

Skinny jeans seem to be staying for awhile, but even they too once made a comeback. Skinny jeans got their start in the 19th century as a slim fit trouser among the higher class, they hit the scene again in the 1950s under a different name, cigarette pants. Musicians and actors were the ones who reintroduced these jeans and they’ve seemed to stick with us ever since.

Flares are a product of the 1960s and 1970s. Sonny and Cher are to blame for this one becoming popular after wearing them on their television show The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. Flare jeans began to flare at the knee and opened up at the bottom to a whopping 26 inches. Bell bottoms for sure!

Boot cut style jeans are the tapered down cousin of the flares and are a staple cut of denim in most everyone’s’ closet. So, if that 26 inches at the bottom of your leg is a tad intimidating, try the bootcut, same effect of a slight flare from the knee down, just not as major.

Moving onto 1980s which is where us millennials are get our band tees, leg warmers and distressed denim of any kind.

I sure wish my mom had kept all her clothes from high school so I could’ve saved some money on this one. Mom jeans and boyfriends jeans were a huge hit in the 1980s. The high-waisted cut was tight around the small of the waist and totally baggy everywhere else. Paired with a cropped sweatshirt and you fit in perfectly.

I believe the best thing to ever happen to the world of denim however, is the denim jacket. The denim jacket has been around through all of these decades and kept evolving to adapt to the fashion of the decade. Slim fitting and masculine to very oversized and distressed, all of these styles have made their return to our closets today and can be found just about anywhere we shop. Denim is so diverse and there is a wash, cut and style for everyone. Jeans are worn everyday in my life and I don’t see that changing. They’ve been around since fashion began and are here to stay. Now, you know I can’t talk about denim without leaving you guys with this.
