‘The Catch: Shondaland’s Newest Addition

Hello Again!

We recently attended an event called ATV Fest where we attended sessions hosted by costume designers from various TV shows and Movies, and actors/directors from multiple TV shows.

One screening that we attended  was for the new Shonda Rhimes show,  ‘The Catch’, which aired March 24th. If you missed the premier of this series, go ahead and catch up on episode one then tune in tomorrow night for the second episode, you will not regret adding ‘The Catch’ to your list of Thursday night tv shows to watch.

According to ABC, “This thriller centers on the strong successful Alice Vaughn. She is LA’s top private investigator and the woman you don’t want to mess with. But when her fiancé cons her out of millions and disappears, Alice goes on a private mission for payback.”

We won’t give away what happens in episode one but we will share some interesting facts from the question and answer session with stars from ‘The Catch’ that are new to ‘Shondaland’.

  1. After the storyline and plot were drawn out and the actors and actresses were assigned their parts Shonda knew the story of the series could be better, so she called Allan Heinberg and while he was on a 10 hour flight from London and he then came up with the new plot.
  2. ‘The Catch’ originally followed a female forensics accountant whose career specialty was exposing fraud for a living, but the main character now plays the part of Alice Vaughn, a fierce private investigator.
  3. Elvy Yost, who plays the character, Sophie, was originally going to play the part of an Intern who could speak Japanese (she even credited her bilingual talent to her reason for getting the part).
  4. The ‘bad-guy’ was originally a cop.
  5. Actor, Rose Rollins, was extremely happy with her character change, she went from a stay at home mom, to a single fierce woman who works with Alice as a private investigator.

Rules that are very crucial in Shondaland

  1. Men do not save the women…ever… instead men play the role of the ‘Damsel in Distress’
  2. Men in Shondaland chop wood, When Allen Heinberg asked Shonda Rhimes if the men could play golf, she said “Maybe, but let me see what theyre wearing first.”
  3. DO NOT mess with Shonda
  4. Shondaland is one big family ❤

We could not publish this post without talking about the fashion in this show, and of course sharing with you so you can dress just as fierce as ‘The Catch’ characters.

Clueless Fashion: Full Circle Back in Style

If you’re an eighties/early ninety’s child, you have probably seen ‘Clueless’. If you have not go ahead and plan a movie night with your girls, because whether or not you have seen it you will LOVE this witty film about typical girls in high school.

What I love about this film is that it is not like ‘Mean Girls’, where if you don’t fit in with the “in crowd” you’re not cool, but everyone becomes friends. Oh and theres a happy ending too!

Before re-watching this film for a blog I remembered bits and pieces of the fashion, which I loved at the time. Unlike re-watching Lizzie McGuire, or whatever else I watched in the 90’s and early 2000’s, the fashion has come full circle and I would wear almost everything in this film today.

This blog is all about our ‘Clueless’ top outfit picks and how you can put a modern-day spin on them. All of these looks are affordable and can be shipped right to you, the link to shop is at the end of the article, yes I did that on purpose.

Also, I’m sharing some of my favorite ‘Clueless’ quotes for your entertainment, and mine.

First we have the slouchy sweater, high waisted shorts, and the typical ninety’s scrunchy.

If you’re anything like me you already have most(or all) of these items in your closet.

Mr. Hall: “So does anyone have any final thoughts on Cher’s oration? Elton?”                    “Yeah. I can’t find my Cranberries CD. I gotta go to the quad before anyone snags it.”

Perfect Summer Dress

Adore this dress that she wore to the dance, while she later paired it with a white feather boa, we decided to leave it out of this photo (don’t worry it is still on the website).

This dress is perfect for Summer and can be dressed up or down several ways!

How to Get Away With Murder(ing) Their Looks

From season one to the recent ending of season 2 , How to Get Away With Murder, has not only become one of the most popular shows (having nearly 11.5 million viewers each week), but it has also become known for it’s iconic fashion from the courtroom to the classroom.

Viola Davis’ character, Annalise Keating, is a power dresser when it comes to her business casual and professional styles. Annalise’s fierce associates do not fall far behind her with their stylish looks. There are WAY too many looks to show you all of the fan favorites, but I will share my top three favorites from season 2 with you and even help you dress just like them!

Before we share the looks we MUST give credit to the How to Get Away With Murder season 2 cast costume designer, Linda Bass.

First Pick: Aja King’s character, Michaela Pratt, has incredible style throughout the show and we LOVE this fun/girly look. The blush colored wrap cardigan pieced with this awesome multi-colored pouf skirt makes for a modest but casual work look, and though I cannot confirm, it looks pretty comfortable too!

Second Pick: Viola Davis’ character, Annalise Keating, in a courtroom look. This long hunter green trench is a fall/winter staple and looks great with the ‘pop of color’ in this look. The Michael Kors turquoise dress is killer with this jade green statement necklace. This look is something anyone could pull off!                                                                    Find this look here: (http://www.sawitinthemovies.com/pages/0/84/actor)

Third Pick: We could not forget about the fabulous style the men in the show have, so I HAD to share my favorite men’s look. This outfit worn by Matt McGorry’s character, Asher Millstone, is my favorite because of the risky corduroy jacket and the charming striped tie. Who doesn’t love pink on boys (insert heart eyes emoji here). To make this look even more unique, Bass finished it off with dark green dress slacks and black dress shoes.   Find this look here: (http://www.sawitinthemovies.com/pages/0/85/actor)

Force 4 Fashion Charity Event

F$F MAIN.png

In the recent interview I did with Wilhelmina Model, Bridget McGarry, we learn the inside scoop on the Bloomingdales hosted charity event, Force 4 Fashion. At this event several top designers including: Cynthia Rowley, Diane von Furstenberg, Giles Deacon, Halston, Opening Ceremony, Ovadia & Sons, Parker, Rag & Bone, Timo Weiland, and Todd Snyder all showcased their talents to create a piece that was inspired by the latest Star Wars film,The Force Awakens.

Here are some of our favorite pieces from the event and we will be sharing Bridget’s Red Carpet look from this event that is both chic, unique, AND affordable!

Star Wars Inspired looks:

“We imagined what Captain Phasma would wear out of her Stormtrooper uniform. We wanted to glam her up but still keep her looking fierce. Our design was inspired by ancient tribal warriors.” – Parker Team

“This look is really a celebration of strength and beauty which is perfect for Rey(The Force Awakens protagonist). It is also lightweight and easy, because movement is so important.” – Diane von Fürstenberg

f4f halston callab.jpg

“Complexity inspires me, and darkness, by nature, is always multifaceted. I wanted to show the intertwining of power and emotion – we know Kylo Ren won’t just be a one-note villain. The dress evokes strength, but also lays bare her vulnerability with sheer panels across her shoulders and back. The headpiece, like a mask, draws you in, but keeps identity elusive. (Halston began his career as a milliner, so I loved tapping into that part of our DNA). Overall the look brings out a powerful presence in the wearer, creating an instant shift in everyones position around her.” – Marie Mazelis, Halston

“We chose Finn because we wanted to explore his adventurous character. We love the idea of combining functionality with fantasy and creating something for Finn that could easily translate to everyday wear.” – Timo Weiland

Bridget McGarry’s look for this event is a chic, all black look that can be worn at several occasions. Find this whole outfit below and don’t forget to be on the look out for her whole interview on iaam.com!
