We’ve recently posted about two trends to watch – espadrilles and mini-bags – and today we’re talking about gingham! Gingham is a pattern that is traditionally viewed as girly and youthful, but this season’s offerings have shown that it’s suitable for adults as well. All of the big designers such as Prada and Versace featured this trend in their SS17 shows, making it a must try for this season.
By having feminine silhouettes such as tailored shirts and jackets, the trend has a more sophisticated look. Furthermore, with different color combinations such as nude and white rather than just red, black or blue, there’s something for everyone in this trend! Other takes on gingham feature embroidered detailing, incorporating another trend for Summer. If you’re not confident in wearing head-to-toe gingham, try incorporating small accessories such as neckties to try out the big Summer trend.
It’s not just designers embracing the gingham trend, celebrities are too and they’re giving us lots of inspiration on how to style our own gingham pieces! Alexa Chung goes for a more structured and modern look, pairing gingham trousers with a printed blouse and heels. Taylor Swift is a long-time lover of gingham, and shows us how to wear a more feminine look with her gingham dress.

Street style has recently made it big on the fashion scene, and it’s not just for fall and winter. Street style has evolved and brought us trends that are to die for. We see street style in the celebrity world & with those who are equally as daring in their fashion choices; however, anyone can adapt these items to fit whatever style works best for them.
One accessory making head way is a straw bag. Straw bags have migrated from the beach to the city and are more friendly on your wallet than a new leather piece.
The bottoms of choice for this season are anything denim. Denim mini skirts are making a frequent appearance. (Bet you wish you would’ve saved all those denim skirts from when you were younger). We are also seeing a lot of straight, boxy cut blue jeans.
Moving north to the top region, bell sleeves are a flowy and feminine statement that can jazz up a simple shirt. Another trend for those simple clothing pieces, is one of my faves, ruffles. Frilly ruffles are being thrown on just about everything from tops, to dresses and skirts.
Graphic tees are being recycled from the fall season and we couldn’t be more stoked.
Whether you’re supporting your favorite band, or a quote about your morning coffee, graphic tees with a pair of shorts or jeans, will definitely be a go-to for warm spring days.
In the category of dresses, the slip dress paired on top of a simple t-shirt has been taken a step further and dresses of every kind are being paired with chunkier knits and button down shirts.
Spring 2017 is one for experimenting, so try on some ruffles and go make the sidewalk your runway!
